Pros

1. Basically, there is no need to work overtime.

2. Free snacks are provided.

3. There is a capsule coffee machine (but you have to pay for the coffee pods).

4. There is an employee welfare committee, and there are several employee dinners each year.

Cons

1. Transportation: Neihu is extremely congested during commuting hours. You may not even be able to get on the bus, and the roads are also terribly jammed. Rainy days are even worse.

2. Policies: There is a grace period for being late (a few minutes), but there is a monthly limit on the number of times. Once you exceed it, taking leave becomes very strictly enforced. Other types of leave follow the Labor Standards Act.

3. Compensation: Strangely, salaries are calculated based on the number of working days each month, so the amount you receive differs every month. The salary structure includes a perfect-attendance bonus (included in the salary you negotiated—it is not really a bonus). If you take personal leave during the month, it is deducted.

4. If you are in the R&D department, the review is just like what others have said: chaotic, with no clear goals. There is also a German person (who does not speak Chinese) who is the husband of a senior executive, so he has the same influence as the executive and has an extremely high opinion of himself.

5. There is a NT$1,000 annual raise, but there are no substantial salary increases. Therefore, negotiate a higher salary at the beginning; otherwise, you will have to discuss a raise with the senior executive, or your salary probably will not change much.

Overall, the company is generally made up of long-term employees. The younger people and newcomers who join later do not stay for very long.

Pros

It’s hard to think of any. It depends on your position; in the R&D department, there is generally not much overtime.

Cons

1. This is a family-owned company, and some of the people managing you do not have a relevant professional background. There is also a German man who is the husband of a supervisor but is not an employee here. He verbally abuses people and is basically like an unofficial manager.

2. The company has been operating at a loss for several years and is working hard to transform. However, after nearly nine years of developing long-term care equipment, it still has no orders. The associate director of R&D, who is the owner’s daughter, manages the long-term care equipment project together with her German husband, but there is essentially no planning. In meetings, they just keep asking everyone to propose ideas, while the hardware has not been updated either. The German man has little relevant software development experience and verbally abuses people when he does not understand something.

3. The software manager is basically just a mouthpiece and does not filter requests from upper management; they only tell subordinates to do whatever upper management says.

4. The software manager’s code is basically pieced together from here and there, and they have little ability to modify it. The comments are also full of Simplified Chinese characters.

Pros

1. Some colleagues are quite easy to get along with.

2. The work environment is reasonably clean and tidy.

3. Free snacks are provided.

4. Coffee is available for purchase.

Cons

1. There is no PM, so projects lack rigorous planning, the execution process is chaotic, and the content is also frequently changed, making execution difficult.

2. Managers often disregard suggestions from technical staff and insist on making decisions based on their own opinions. As a result, even when the content is difficult to implement or has logical problems, we still have to find a way to carry it out.

3. There is nominally a system for paying overtime, but in practice, almost no one dares to report overtime after working late.

4. There are often traffic jams after work.
