There are always machines that can never be fully maintained, and machines that can never be fully repaired.

When you call the facilities department for repairs, they will take a long time to come—unless you ask an engineer or section manager to request it; only then will they come, and very reluctantly.

You can only keep waiting for the machine to break down before requesting repairs. There is no way to have a preventive mechanism. Once it breaks down and production stops, they shift the blame to the facilities department.

Working shifts is great. Basically, if you can think of a shift arrangement, they have it here.

If you are a technician, pay attention to your own safety. Accidents really happen easily here; everything is very old.

The equipment is only repaired enough to run unless it has broken down into scrap.

Therefore, be especially careful when passing by equipment and check for unusual noises. Something unexpected may happen.

The railings and handrails are also severely corroded because of the seaside environment. When climbing or performing maintenance at heights,

please do not hold onto the handrails, and do not trust them or lean against them. Someone really has fallen.

Resigning is very troublesome. They will try every possible way to persuade you to transfer to another department. If you are persuaded to transfer, it is equivalent to becoming a new employee—effectively the start of a new probationary period.

It’s very convenient to buy seafood at Taichung Harbor—it’s right next door.

They don’t notify you if you aren’t selected. It’s by the coast, so it’s probably very cold in winter, especially when a cold snap hits.

For a traditional industry company, the salary and benefits are pretty good.

The HR manager tricked people into joining by saying that the work was simple every day. As it turned out, there were tons of projects, and there was so much work that I had to take it home. Every department kept reporting insufficient staffing, but not only were they ignored—some departments even cut staff. People are constantly coming and going.

The company’s current policy is to flatter and cater to new employees while being indifferent to some long-serving employees. Veteran employees just slack off and refuse to do anything extra, even when it would benefit the company. No wonder there is a generational gap at the company: only older employees remain, unable to change jobs, while new employees keep coming and going.

And the most outrageous thing I heard is that people are not treated with respect. For example, the former head of the Essential Oils Section was demoted to team leader and then further demoted to technician. The head of the Product Research Section was demoted to specialist, then later promoted back to section head because the company could never recruit a manager.

The salary and benefits are pretty good.

The company is old, and many of the maintenance access routes are almost completely rusted through. Maintenance work is basically risking your life.

Without insurance, I really wouldn’t recommend taking the risk.

Willing to pay overtime

The working environment on site is terrible. Flies are flying everywhere, and waves of bad odors drift around (it’s hard to imagine that food is made there). It’s extremely hot working under the sheet-metal building in summer~ If you ask to see the site during the interview, they’ll say: “We make food, so it’s inconvenient to show you around.”

There are many long-term employees who don’t improve and won’t teach you, so you’re on your own.
