Pros

None

Cons

1. In March, a bunch of people were laid off, and then we were told to take four days of special personal leave (unpaid).

2. In May, as the pandemic eased and business improved, they started feeling understaffed,

and then asked us to come in and work overtime on our days off (without overtime pay). We were basically being exploited twice over, while the managers comfortably took time off and the employees were always the ones working overtime.

3. The two managers at the Chinese restaurant often do not come to work until noon. Even though things are already too busy for the staff to handle, they do not proactively help during the off-hours.

Otherwise, in the evening, whether there is anything to do or not, they run off to the first floor to chat. Then, when there are lots of customers, they ask why nobody told them. So this is what a manager is supposed to be?! They dress up beautifully and put on nail polish every day; just walking around the workplace counts as helping (how wonderful). They are also the last to arrive and the first to leave the company. When there is a customer complaint, they are the first to hide; whenever something happens with a customer, they push the team leader out to take the fall.

4. This was the first time I heard that you cannot schedule your own annual leave (at the Chinese restaurant); other departments can.

Pros

Meals provided, three festival bonuses

Cons

It looks organized on the surface, but in reality it is not. It would be one thing if official documents were still sent on paper, but they also have to be respectfully delivered to each manager in person, and work cannot continue until they have all signed. The general manager is nowhere to be seen most of the time; all day long, they do nothing but deal with paperwork.

The employees responsible for Western cuisine serve Chinese meals that are greasy and overly salty. When asked to have the head chef improve them, they make a bunch of excuses and evade responsibility. Even getting a fried egg or stir-fried vegetables to replenish the food takes thirty minutes.

The head of the Administration Department often allows department leaders to do whatever they want while imposing strict rules on subordinates. They often ask subordinates to buy coffee, and when problems arise, they have no idea how to handle them and simply pass them off to other departments. The year-end bonus calculation base is not communicated to HR until the afternoon before the bonuses are paid. They are narrow-minded and extremely biased, and frequently stir up trouble by gossiping.

If you can avoid dealing with the managers mentioned above, the job may still be worth staying in. However, if one of them is your direct supervisor, think very carefully. That said, if you are a woman who is very confident about her appearance, the general manager should be quite willing to look after you.
