Nothing else.

Working overtime until the early hours of the morning is basically routine. Even if you don’t want to work overtime, you’ll be “forced” to—especially by a certain female manager surnamed Chang. She speaks extremely loudly and laughs even louder, loves forming little cliques, and if she doesn’t like you, just wait to be given a hard time! Also, she loves abusing her privileges. You’re either waiting for her to sign off on something or waiting for her to arrive at work (yes, her workday starts at 11 a.m.—that’s right, 11 a.m.!), then waiting for her to sit down and finish watching her videos, and also waiting for her to go out to buy designer goods / go shopping / eat / ??... before finally starting work.

I heard she’s still there (seriously?!)... Mm, anyway, I’ve already resigned. I just want to tell those who are thinking of joining: if you’re not the type who loves smoking, drinking, and talking nonsense, and you don’t want to waste your life in a place like this, perhaps consider another company.

The office is still very new and comfortable. The colleagues are nice too.

The only advantage may be that it carries the name of Hakuhodo.

It is a beautiful apple on the outside, but rotten inside.

Low pay and lots of work. Overtime is the norm in every department.

The turnover rate is extremely high.

If you can stay for a full year, you should probably be considered a senior employee.

Think twice before joining....

The receptionist is very cute.

Once you reach the interview stage, as is customary, you start by taking a five-question written test. After finishing, you have an interview with a manager surnamed Shi from the First Business Group. During the interview, this supervisor's attitude is frivolous and their tone is extremely poor. The questions are the same old ones: the value of public relations and why you want to work in PR—truly the same old story. Next, you interview with the general manager of the First Business Group, who discusses their thoughts after reviewing your résumé and raises the points they have questions about. Overall, after completing the interviews, I feel that, if possible, there are many other agencies in the industry you could choose instead, such as United Communications. This is because during the interview, the general manager said that if you want to secure a place for yourself, the company first looks at ability when hiring, and that many people become managers or vice presidents in their early thirties. (The titular manager I had just met immediately came to mind...) What I really want to say is that whether you work at an agency or in sales, the titles are all very impressive—ultimately, it is all just fleeting and insubstantial anyway.

I joined with the mindset that I could learn, because I was desperate to change careers, so I immediately agreed~~~ To be honest, the workload is quite heavy and the work is really not easy. You often have to stimulate your creativity, and there are also many stressful challenges involving tight deadlines. Many trivial tasks are genuinely not as easy as they seem, especially since I entered the company from a non-related field. However, I really learned a lot from the experience. After leaving, I realized that I learned the most here, and my supervisor was also very dedicated to teaching and guiding me.

Looking back after leaving, everything was actually fine; the only people who annoyed me were the clients. Sometimes clients would make last-minute requests, so I had to work overtime to complete the work.

The company has a big reputation, so I guess no one will pay attention to my review.

I still remember when I had just graduated. I wasn't from Taipei, so I had to travel to Taipei for every interview.

1. At the first interview, they asked me to go home and complete an assignment (a common Q&A exercise at PR and advertising agencies), then told me to wait for further notice after the interview.

After I finished it and sent it in, there was no response. I thought I had probably been ghosted.

2. A few days later, they called to say that another team within the group was also hiring and asked me to interview with them as well.

Of course, I immediately agreed.

After that interview, there was another take-home assignment: translating an entire press release (in English).

3. After finally rushing to finish the translation by the next day, they called again to say that another company within the group also wanted to meet me. I naively ran up to Taipei again, only to receive a call at 11 a.m. that morning at the high-speed rail station saying that they wanted to reschedule (the interview was at one or two in the afternoon).

I'm just a recent graduate applying for a job paying 26K...

If your supervisor doesn't like you, they'll use really nasty tactics to push you into resigning, and you might think you were laid off, only to find out you were actually forced to leave.

Comfortable office

Because I did not graduate from a related field and only have nearly one year of marketing planning experience—which I had also disclosed on my résumé and 104—the process began with a 20-minute timed written test, followed by waiting 15 minutes for the manager, who kept me waiting (which made me wonder: what was the point of timing it?). After I introduced myself and described projects I had worked on, the manager asked only about three questions, apart from asking, “Do you have any questions?” When I asked, “If working overtime is the norm at the company, and as far as I know there is no overtime pay, is there an additional bonus system?” that question set her off. The female manager angrily said that this industry operates on a responsibility-based system, that the company has no other additional bonuses, that many people just come to pad their résumés, and that she did not care about [inaudible].

After she calmed down, she did not ask many more questions. In the end, she only said: “If you want to work in this field, you should go and get a relevant degree.”

This made me wonder: if a degree in a related field is required, why contact me in the first place? Could HR please be more careful when reviewing résumés?
