Pros

Other employees are friendly

Cons

Before the interview, I spent an hour taking a personality test, completing a Chinese typing test, and filling out my résumé. Because I had not provided the phone number of a supervisor from a previous company, I was also asked to provide it (???). Before the interview had even started, it already felt like I was going to undergo a comprehensive background investigation. Personally, I don’t mind filling in information beforehand, since it can save time during the interview and, if I’m clearly unsuitable for the position, I can be eliminated directly.

During the interview, it felt as though the interviewer had not looked at my portfolio at all. They kept asking questions about experience unrelated to the responsibilities of the position, as if they thought they were the most capable person and everything I said was wrong. When I tried to elaborate and explain, they seemed only half-interested and kept talking back. Later, they took out several interview question sheets and read the questions aloud, such as: “What do your parents value most?” There were around a dozen questions of this type, even though I had already taken a personality test before the interview. When some of my answers were relatively ambiguous, they would directly respond, “That feels the same as not answering at all” (???). Finally, when we discussed my expected salary, they said that my requested amount was relatively high and might need further discussion. (The salary I requested was within the range listed on the recruitment website. If that is the case, they should not casually post that range on the website; besides, it was only an “expectation.”)

After the entire interview, I felt that a great deal of time had been wasted. If they were so unhappy with me, they could simply have declined to interview me. I also spent a lot of time filling out the information before the interview, only for them not to have even looked at my portfolio during the interview??? The interviewee also has to spend money and time traveling there. If I did not meet their requirements, they could have declined the interview at the outset or shortened the interview. The attitude they displayed during the interview was genuinely very uncomfortable.

Pros

None.

Cons

A very absurd interview experience. Your company designs clothing, but only on the day of the interview did you say that my portfolio did not meet your requirements, even though I had already uploaded my portfolio on the job site. It made me feel like I had made a pointless trip for no reason.

Normally, a proper company would first screen applicants who are suitable for the company and possess the corresponding abilities before arranging interviews.

In addition, your company’s supervisor was not very respectful during the interview. They flipped through my portfolio carelessly. Even if they were not satisfied, there was no need for such behavior. A normal and friendly company should not act this way. The supervisor’s conduct made me uncomfortable.

I only wanted to ask about the details of overtime, but after answering, your supervisor said, “If you care so much about overtime, then we don’t need to continue.” On the one hand, I had not even had the opportunity to say whether I was willing to cooperate with overtime, because I was repeatedly interrupted. This domineering approach no longer constituted a balanced dialogue between both parties and also undermined the purpose of the interview. I do not understand why I had to be prematurely judged before I had the chance to answer or be consulted.

This does not seem to be a normal way to communicate in an interview.

Several times during the interview, the supervisor asked me questions but interrupted me while I was answering, making me feel that this was not a respectful communication process. It was obvious that the other party was impatient and extremely unfriendly.

I am very glad that I did not end up working in such an environment.

According to the supervisor, I would need to cooperate with opening and closing the department-store counter until midnight, though this would not happen frequently.

During peak seasons, I would need to cooperate with overtime until after 10 p.m., with a high likelihood of it happening. (Of course, they would add, “depending on individual ability.”)

The salary listed on the website was not very honest. The starting salary discussed on the day of the interview was NT$2,000 lower than the amount published on the website. It is difficult to describe how unpleasant this felt; there was no sense of integrity, and it felt as though everything was decided solely by your company.

Overall, it was extremely bad.
