Pros

Working hours are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., so you can basically get a full night's sleep.

There is a salary review every year, but if employees do not negotiate, the boss may skillfully push their salaries down.

The year-end bonus is fixed at one month’s salary; even if the events make more money, it will not increase.

The company claims to be similar to a foreign company, but in reality, the boss is currently the only foreign national, so there is no need to worry too much about English.

Cons

The company’s cash flow is extremely precarious. As soon as the pandemic hit, it immediately ran into cash-flow problems and laid off all its employees, offering very little security.

The boss is highly emotional and, because their Chinese is poor, can barely understand current affairs in Taiwan, so their ideas may feel out of touch with society.

The standards for hiring employees are also extremely strange. You may encounter bizarre colleagues for half of the year—people with no common sense about work, who falsify accounts, or whose abilities do not meet the requirements, among other issues. The boss’s solution is not to replace these employees, but to make other employees take on their work instead (and then become even more bad-tempered), so the company’s turnover rate is extremely high.

This company has recently started hiring again. Job seekers should keep their eyes and ears open during interviews. At present, the company probably only has the boss and an executive assistant left (because of the layoffs mentioned above). If you join, you will effectively have to take on most of the work. In addition, the company appears to be in poor financial condition, and you may be pressured into accepting lower pay through unusual contract arrangements (such as fixed-term employment or hourly pay).

Pros

None

Cons

The rude tone during the interview phone call was one thing, but after scheduling the interview, I never received any confirmation email. On the day of the interview, I felt so uneasy that I called to confirm, only for them to say that they had forgotten to inform me that the position was no longer available.

If a company is unwilling even to notify interviewees that an interview has been canceled, do you think it is still worth going to the interview?

Pros

I interned here for two years. One advantage is that my colleagues all have very good English, so I could practice English with them. The company mostly organizes road-running events, so people who enjoy those kinds of activities can give them a try. When there is an event, going out and staying somewhere together feels a lot like a field trip. As an intern, I was given considerable freedom: they were willing to let us write posts, develop sponsors, and send proposals. Working hours were also very flexible—I usually arrived at the office around 11 a.m. and went out for lunch on my own. Most full-time employees finished work between 7:30 and 8 p.m.

Cons

The boss is somewhat emotional and can be a bit partial toward a few favorite employees, but he is a lovable old kid. There are also quite a few miscellaneous tasks. Compared with larger companies, the company is not very large, but that is normal.

Pros

Probably none

Cons

The boss is of Asian South African origin and seems to be Chinese. He exploits everyone to the extreme, expects employees to attend events and purchase personal items for him, and assigns a host of administrative chores. Not to mention that events often run long, resulting in overtime without overtime pay, among other things. He does not comply with relevant regulations and casually verbally abuses employees in the office. His EQ is extremely low, and employee turnover is very high.
