Pros

None at all

Cons

Questions about my experience at my previous company and why I left; my typing speed in characters per minute; the interview initially involved two people, then two more joined partway through, making four people in total—one interviewer against four candidates. They then asked a whole lot of questions unrelated to the job: Why is your registered address different from where you live? How old are your children? Why don't you live with your parents-in-law—is your relationship poor? Who I live with has nothing to do with the job I'm applying for. The conversation was utterly baffling and mindless. They seemed intent on digging into applicants' private lives. After I was hired, they said a health check was required. However, after receiving the health examination results, the company did not even ask me for the records. Do they really care about their employees' health? It's questionable.

I sincerely advise people not to make life difficult for themselves over a paycheck, unless you are willing to be treated like a slave. Only after joining this company do you realize that, aside from not being allowed to eat breakfast during working hours, even cups of drinks and water must be kept in a drawer. It is quite obvious that they do not want you to drink water or beverages and keep running to the restroom. If you are caught using the restroom during working hours, someone will bang repeatedly on the restroom door. Using the restroom is a basic biological necessity—if even going to the restroom and drinking some water have to be controlled by this unscrupulous company, what are you supposed to do when you need to go? Soil your pants?

Rather than new employee training, it is more like an intimidation rally. New employees are usually harshly berated upon arrival. Driving away four or five people a year is nothing unusual. They are utterly inhumane and do everything possible to be harsh and miserly. One person is expected to handle the workload of two or three people, while the pay is pitifully low. Employees are treated like robots: no drinking water and no restroom breaks during working hours. The management style is like a prison. If you have a strong enough heart, you can give it a try. Listening to music is forbidden; all you hear are machine noises and verbal abuse. There are numerous cameras monitoring you. The supervisors are arrogant and look down on everyone, taking extreme pleasure in insulting and tormenting people. Many people monitor and evaluate you. Once you escape that prison, you will never want to go back. There are only four words to describe this company: “a living hell.”

Pros

The boss is pretty good.

The industry is in decline, and there is very little work, making it suitable for zoning out and enjoying a leisurely retirement.

But be careful of downsizing...

Cons

There are too many long-time employees at the company. They are very familiar with one another and, consequently, quite cliquish.

Newcomers are usually bullied badly by senior female employees, who harshly berate them. They also do not help with the work or provide training.

They simply wait for you to be unable to endure it and leave on your own. On average, they drive 3–5 people away each year.

R&D resources are severely lacking, and engineers are treated with considerable disrespect.

There is no functional classification for individuals or departments. In effect, as long as you know how to shift blame and argue, you can avoid doing anything.

Document control is extremely backward, and everything is controlled by the document-control staff. If they do not cooperate, R&D cannot get anything done.

There is also no way to change these outdated control practices. The office atmosphere is extremely poor.

People who are thick-skinned, slack off, do not work, and argue loudly are more likely to last here.

Those who want to learn or work seriously will suffer greatly.

Pros

Even though the company is clearly making money, if the boss or junior boss feels they aren't making money, they lay people off.
