Title: Interview experience at Gaocheng Public Relations ─ A response that did not end well, an article from 2018

If I remember correctly, the company was at Xiangshan Station (?!).

It took ten minutes to walk from the MRT station.

An endless park pedestrian walkway.

You also had to climb a very steep slope to reach the office building.

The HR person was actually just the receptionist/administrative clerk.

It was the kind of small company where a typical middle-aged office lady who did miscellaneous errands interviewed you.

There was a written test

No rejection notice

Interview questions

1. Translate a press release about a sports car from Chinese into English

Assess your own English ability

Asked: Suppose we have a new client, Seagate Technology. What do they do? Who are their competitors? What is their market share? What do consumers think of them?

It even lets you Google it

3. Watch an introductory video about a Texas Instruments charging port and write a Facebook fan-page post

Be creative. The content was difficult to understand

4. How familiar are you with luxury watches and clocks, and what are your thoughts on them?

Make something up

Interview process

The company environment was somewhat old and run-down

You could tell the power hierarchy from the desks

Some people had Mac partitions, while others were seated in a large open-plan arrangement

The interview did not even take place in a meeting room; they had me write the test at someone else’s workstation

One manager was a bit arrogant and kept speaking English with a strong Taiwanese accent

They called the student worker “student worker” instead of using their name. It was really inappropriate and disrespectful

The laptop was very old and difficult to use

Interview advice

Uh, personally, I wouldn’t really want to go
It feels like the company culture isn’t for me
During the interview, they also said, “If you do well, you can become a regular employee.”
The question is, do I even want to come? From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere felt wrong
Let alone becoming a regular employee
