Pros

The monthly salary is paid normally.

Cons

Engineers on regular shifts still have to be on call after work. They may have to answer calls in the middle of the night while they are half asleep. Personnel working 12-hour shifts have no time to rest, because if a supervisor sees you taking a break, you can expect to receive a C rating in your performance review. If you follow all the SOPs, I guarantee you still will not finish the work by the end of your shift. The supervisors will only ask why others can finish it. If you follow the rules and still cannot finish, you are making things difficult for the supervisor, and your performance review will suffer. But if you do not follow the SOP and get caught, you will have to take responsibility yourself.

Pros

The end of the workday is relatively normal.

Cons

Unofficial rule: Official hours start at 8:00, but you have to be in the office at 7:30. They will say it is not mandatory, but if you do not comply, you will be harassed through abuse of authority.

Because the Japanese staff also do not understand the technology (they cover for each other, so old problems resurface), they are easily led around by contractors, and there are many obvious defects on the production line.

You have to read the Japanese staff’s expressions and understand the atmosphere to survive, because they also do not know whether what they are doing is helpful, so they will not give instructions.

You have to shoulder it yourself. Because there are many systemic problems, the quality is poor; this is the result from top to bottom.

Pros

There are quarterly bonuses and a year-end bonus.

Cons

I worked there for about a year three years ago, so I’d like to share a few thoughts. The seniority system is very pronounced. At the time, I was in the quality control department, and the seniors basically taught things randomly and improperly. If something went wrong, you were left to take responsibility yourself. When other departments tried to push things onto our department, they not only refused to stand up for their own people but also helped those departments take advantage of junior employees. For newcomers, the work atmosphere was extremely uncomfortable. I heard that the department manager has since resigned, but that only means one tumor has been removed from a cluster of major tumors.

Review:

After joining, there is a half-hour interview and test conducted by the Human Resources Department. The test focuses mainly on mechanics, including screw specifications, reading dimensions, and interpreting three-view drawings. (P.S. As long as you studied diligently in high school or college, you should be able to pass.) You may be assigned on-call duty three or four times during a three-month rotation. Nighttime on-call duty is compensated with time off. For example, if you finish at 1 a.m., you start work at 1 p.m. the following afternoon and finish normally at 5 p.m. Overtime is coordinated with the production line. Overtime pay follows the Labor Standards Act, and monthly overtime does not exceed 54 hours. Evening overtime shifts are assigned on a rotating basis. There are bonuses for the three major holidays. The year-end bonus is guaranteed at two months' salary, but according to Japanese-company policy, it is paid as one month each in July and December. The work includes regular inspections, maintenance, machine improvements, and drafting revisions. (P.S. The design aspect is particularly important.) There is a second interview; you will be notified within one week to attend it. Saturdays and Sundays are off, subject to production requirements. After the HR interview, you will meet directly with the team leader. (P.S. The team leader is Japanese.) A female interpreter will accompany you during the first interview. Since the interviewer is a Japanese team leader, many detailed questions are asked, so related matters must be explained very thoroughly. Japanese interviewers place great emphasis on attitude and fluency of responses. The company’s senior management are all Japanese, so learning some Japanese, if possible, will make work smoother. There is an employee cafeteria, a long-service bonus, labor insurance, health insurance, and group insurance.

Cons

There probably aren't any.
