Interviewing at this company’s Xinzhuang headquarters felt quite American, and the environment was pretty good! But the job is not based at headquarters—it is in mainland China.
After the interview, I learned that Honghui Shanghai has two office buildings. Apparently, the Finance Department has a great deal of power and is also quite intimidating, making things difficult for other departments by nitpicking over every detail. The Engineering Department is worked to the bone, and HR is somewhat stingy toward Taiwanese managers. Overall, there is severe infighting among the Taiwanese staff, and the misery index is extremely high... After hearing all that, I decided against it.
It was simply completely baffling; I honestly felt like there was no idea why I had even gone there?????
I went for an interview a few weeks ago. After completing and submitting the written test, the process left the interviewee waiting for about 20 minutes.
Then, once the information technology interviewer came in, they asked some questions about the interviewee’s past experience and background;
It would have been fine not to ask, but as soon as they did, it was immediately clear that the interviewer had no understanding of the subject at all and kept deliberately making things difficult for the interviewee.
Even aside from making things difficult, they did not raise any valid questions and just kept smirking. I thought to myself, “And then?” But there was no then ...
I understand that during an interview, you may encounter a difficult interviewer to some extent, but at least they should raise valid questions or offer better suggestions.
This company does absolutely none of that ... It was completely baffling.
I can accept waiting for you, but I cannot accept being treated this way. You can choose not to hire me, but please don’t deliberately make things difficult for or ridicule interviewees, okay? This company really deserves to be blacklisted. I sincerely recommend not wasting your time going there.
Salary is paid on time
The manager is very good at using vague words to evade questions, claiming to have experience developing systems for top-100 companies, without elaborating on the other systems. Just one ERP system (purchasing an off-the-shelf ERP system and outsourcing development after requirements research) has failed to go live after three years of implementation. What do you think? The company shirks responsibility for its losses; no matter what happens, it is always the fault of subordinates or other departments. IT positions have been waiting year after year for newcomers to come in and take the blame. Counting on my fingers, four people have already left.
I advise anyone who wants to learn the dark arts of workplace politics to come to this department: the manager enjoys the credit, while those below bear the responsibility and blame. If you like flattering the manager, you will be fine; if you have a difference of opinion, they will disparage you, and they will also disparage you if you are more capable than them. They habitually use duplicitous tactics to sow discord, telling A that B is incompetent and B that A is incompetent, and they love making empty promises.
Most people have the work attitude of PMs, though there are still one or two who work very seriously; the pay is low and there is no technical substance, so it is a waste of your youth.
