Pros

Just pretend to be working.

Cons

Seriously, the biggest problem with this company is the boss himself. His judgment when hiring people is truly awful. Ability doesn't matter; knowing how to flatter and talk nonsense matters more. Some people clearly have no real talent, yet they're very good at making themselves sound impressive, as if the company couldn't function without them. And the boss actually believes it all—it's laughable.

Then look at the engineering team. They can't even produce a decent product, yet some of them still think they're a big deal. Especially those long-term employees who've been here for nearly ten years—do they really think they're in such high demand? They probably know better than anyone that if they went out and competed with genuinely capable engineers in the outside world, they wouldn't stand much of a chance. To put it bluntly, staying a long time doesn't mean you're capable, and it certainly doesn't mean the company can't function without you. Don't mistake staying in your comfort zone for actual ability, and don't treat seniority as proof of competence.

The funniest thing is that some people actually think they could never be laid off. Come on, how many people has this company already let go? Seeing others get laid off today, do you really think you can keep living comfortably? Have you even thought about what kind of person the boss is? Don't be so naïve. No one is indispensable. It may be someone else today, but tomorrow it could very well be you.

In the current job market, do you really think you'll be in such high demand if you leave? The workplace out there isn't somewhere you can survive simply by flattering people and coasting on seniority. Some people really need to face reality instead of feeling pleased with themselves all day.

After all, the next person to be laid off might just be you.
