Survival rules for those who will join a department located on a separate floor at headquarters in the future:
1. When you’re busy, be sure to sigh and groan loudly enough for the entire office to hear. Better yet, slam some documents down so everyone can feel how hard you’re working.
2. When you have nothing to do, chat with colleagues in your group about gossip and browse Instagram, Xiaohongshu, and ticketing websites. But when someone else has a moment to chat, criticize them behind their back.
3. You should also know how to reinterpret what the junior supervisor says, then go before the manager and tearfully complain about how aggrieved you are—you’ll repeatedly win sympathy that way.
Finally, the department tacitly allows and tolerates this behavior while still believing that things are “very harmonious” internally. No wonder the turnover rate is so high.
