The Taipei office environment and relationships among colleagues are quite good. Mid-year and year-end bonuses, as well as salary raises, steadily increase the longer you stay.
As for project managers on government projects, really, do not try it lightly. You have to somehow navigate among the employer, the client, and external partners. The employer is even more bureaucratic than the client, specializing in factional politics and competing for favor like members of an imperial harem; the client is addicted to outsourcing and wastes time all day, taking pleasure in spending the project’s money; and external organizations know exactly how each party operates and understand how to delay and refuse to cooperate. In particular, positions requiring foreign-language skills need foreign-language expertise the least, while supervisors who demand international experience are completely uninternational.
