The colleagues are pretty good overall.
They’re easy enough to get along and communicate with.
After being here for two or three months,
the number of colleagues in the department went from eight down to two.
With the two levels of managers also sitting together,
there are now as many managers as colleagues 😂
Even though I’m in the software department,
everything has to follow the senior manager’s instructions.
There are no specifications or design drawings,
and there’s no software PM or designer either.
The senior manager expects that if he tells you something in one sentence,
you should be able to finish everything.
For example: “I want an xxx feature. Give it to me in a few days.”
When the requirements aren’t clear, you can only try to read his mind.
And the schedule is usually impossible to meet.
Once the deadline arrives, he blasts you for being too incompetent.
Once, I finished ahead of schedule.
After showing it to the senior manager,
I was immediately blasted: “What kind of crappy thing is this?”
Then he kept adding requirements and features and constantly changing the UI.
He dragged things out until the time he had specified had passed.
When I stopped adding features and changing the UI,
he again kept blasting me for being incompetent.
He also often says we’re going to do A this week,
then says the following week that we’re actually supposed to do B.
Or he’ll say the deadline is the week after next,
then the following week ask why it still isn’t finished
and start taunting you about being incompetent.
When you tell him that he himself said it was due the week after next,
he’ll even insist that he never said that 🙄
Of course, this target rotates.
Basically, he drives one person out every week or two by doing this.
Recently it was my turn, and I held out for almost a month.
When the senior manager realized I was too good at hanging in there,
he directly brought HR in to berate me over a bunch of baseless accusations.
I talked back and shut him down.
But I guess, just like the more senior colleagues who were driven out soon after they arrived,
it’s about time for me to leave too 😜
