New facilities—clean, attractive, spacious, and comfortable offices.
People try to win arguments by being louder, shouting first and discussing things afterward.
Or they stay quiet and claim not to know anything, waiting to watch you make mistakes. Who knows how the procedures are supposed to work? Apart from the entrenched long-timers, there is a constant turnover of supporting characters. The supporting characters exist collectively to highlight the importance of the old guard.
The sales department is even more entertaining. Newcomers have to know how to curry favor with the influential people; otherwise, no one will teach you. They just throw out, “Wasn’t this covered in the training? Read it yourself.” How much can really be taught in a half-day training session that is rushed through once? Sometimes they themselves barely understand it.
Newcomers have to learn to constantly show loyalty to the slightly overweight supervisor and curry her favor. Otherwise, she will deliberately avoid explaining things clearly or fail to respond, and may also instruct others to block you in order to demonstrate her managerial power.
Colleagues may also try to compete for the position of second-in-command and do indescribable things. Unless you are skilled at internal politics, I advise you to leave. Life is short—don’t get trapped in the mud!
