At the beginning of the interview, two female HR representatives first explained the company’s benefits and regulations. Later, when I asked about the work involved in publication design, they did not know the answers to any of my questions and had no understanding of it at all. They did not even know how to turn on the air conditioning in the interview room, so I waited inside for another design manager and nearly suffocated. After waiting for quite a while, the manager arrived, but his explanation was also fairly vague. Later, the two HR representatives and one design manager left, saying they needed to contact the assistant to the executive and asked me to wait a little longer. The interview had been scheduled several days in advance, but on the day itself, it felt as though no one at the company took it seriously. In the end, they notified me that the assistant to the executive would not be coming to interview me, and the interview ended. The design position at this company is based on a responsibility system, with no overtime pay. There is only a NT$60 meal allowance for working through a meal break (lunch boxes now cost over NT$100—what can you eat for NT$60?). The year-end bonus is fixed at one month’s salary and will not change. There are bonuses for the three major holidays and a birthday cash gift, but they did not say how much. It feels like a very traditional and closed-off industry.
