Cons

At the beginning of the interview, two female HR representatives explained the company’s benefits and regulations. Later, when I asked about the responsibilities of the publishing graphic designer position, neither of them knew anything about it and they had no understanding of the job at all. They did not even know how to turn on the air conditioning in the interview room. I waited inside for the manager in charge of another graphic designer until I nearly suffocated from the heat. After a long wait, the manager came and gave a fairly vague explanation. The two HR representatives and the graphic design manager then left, saying they needed to contact the assistant, and asked me to wait a little longer. The interview had been scheduled several days in advance, but on the day itself, it felt as though no one at the company took it seriously. In the end, they notified me that the assistant would not be coming to interview me, and the interview ended. Graphic designers at this company are on a responsibility-based system, with no overtime pay—only a NT$60 missed-meal allowance (bento meals now cost over NT$100, so what can you eat for NT$60?). The year-end bonus is fixed at one month’s salary and does not change. There are gifts or cash bonuses for the three major holidays and birthdays, but they did not say how much. It feels like a very traditional, closed-off industry.
