Pros

Salary. Benefits are fairly good for Hualien.

Basic labor insurance, national health insurance, 6% pension contribution, annual leave, year-end bonus, and holiday bonuses.

Salary is around NT$35,000.

The advantage is that the company’s systems are not well established.

Cons

The owner likes to make grand promises and take advantage of small opportunities, and favors a supervisor with 30 years of service who likes to cause trouble.

(Drivers are instructed to take back defective products that should have been scrapped, remove the packaging, and have colleagues at the fruit market sell them individually. Otherwise, products such as tofu, tofu pudding, and other bean-based foods are taken out of the freezer and packaged at room temperature outside the storage area, with complete disregard for food storage conditions.)

The company specializes in the distribution of fresh and frozen foods, processed food distribution, route delivery, and other related businesses. No one cares about or follows the required work environment standards and requirements.

Office staff, warehouse staff, and drivers—no one is willing to make changes to improve work efficiency.

The vast majority of drivers (except for two or three) are very selfish, have poor work habits, and cooperate poorly.

Warehouse staff (basically, most of them just coast and muddle through; quite often they drag their feet and wait for others to help).

The company has significant food safety problems. It allows order pickers and inspection drivers to turn off the freezer power while handling inventory, without closing the freezer door during the process—in fact, sometimes leaving it wide open—and they have no concern whatsoever for the storage temperature.
