Salary. Benefits are fairly good for Hualien.
Basic labor insurance, health insurance, 6% pension contribution, annual leave, year-end bonus, and holiday bonuses.
Salary is around NT$35,000.
The advantage is that the company’s systems are not well established.
The boss likes to make grand promises and take advantage of small opportunities, while favoring a supervisor with 30 years of seniority who likes to cause trouble.
(Drivers are asked to bring back defective products that should have been scrapped, remove their packaging, and have colleagues sell them individually at the fruit market. Alternatively, products made from soybeans, such as tofu and tofu pudding, are taken out of the freezer and packaged at room temperature outside the storage area, with complete disregard for food storage requirements.)
The company specializes in the distribution of processed foods, including fresh foods requiring soaking, frozen and refrigerated products, as well as delivery through distribution channels. Nobody cares about or follows the required work environment standards and procedures.
Office staff, warehouse personnel, and drivers—nobody is willing to make changes to improve work efficiency.
The vast majority of the drivers (except for two or three) are extremely selfish, have poor work habits, and are uncooperative.
Warehouse staff (most of them simply coast along; quite often they drag their feet and wait for others to help).
The company has significant food-safety problems. It allows order-picking staff and drivers to turn off the freezer power while handling and checking goods, without closing the freezer door during the process—or even leaving it wide open—and they have no regard for the temperature of the storage environment.
