Pros

1. During the interview, HR provided a glass of negative-ion mineral water.

Cons

1. I never had it again afterward, so there was no way to have it with the pie provided by senior management.

2. At the beginning of the interview, the senior manager said there would be two weeks of pre-employment training, after which we could develop through our own business strengths once we had built a solid foundation. However, during those first two weeks, I found that it was all just sales scripts. We had to stay for eight full hours a day, but the actual teaching took less than one hour; the rest of the time was simply left for us to kill, which was a huge waste of time.

3. The training at the beginning was fundamentally hollow. The consequences of rushing new hires into the job were fully reflected in the performance results. The company would tell you to practice independently while discouraging you from asking experienced colleagues for advice. Then, if you failed to meet your targets, management would evaluate whether you were qualified to continue, making new hires feel that being allowed to stay was an opportunity granted by the company and that they needed to work even harder.

4. Once you really start working, you will find that the pay is very meager. Basically, this is a highly profitable industry, but the sales commission is small. In addition, being late or forgetting to report something will result in a NT$5,000 deduction from that week’s marketing bonus. Supervisors also encourage you to work on weekday evenings and holidays to generate results, without overtime pay. Even when you have no clients scheduled, you still have to go to the office to practice with yourself, which is quite a waste of time and completely restricts the sales staff’s freedom. Calculated out, you only get about two to three days off per month.

5. Senior company executives like sycophants. Even if their sales results are zero, as long as they spend all day in the office performing the act of practicing “with themselves” for management to see, management will protect them, because the company needs people who are constantly improving. Even high-performing salespeople will become targets of upper management if they raise concerns or suggestions about company rules.

Overall company atmosphere:

At first, they tell you that you will have plenty of freedom and that if you work hard at the beginning of the month, you can rest later. All of that is false, because management will want a share of your sales results, so you can only work harder. If you slack off even slightly or want to rest, you will instead become an outlier. As a result, many senior colleagues gradually just do the minimum, without the positive outlook presented during the interview.

Thoughts: If you are doing this short-term, I personally do not recommend staying for more than six months, because you do not learn much from the work itself. Most of your time is tied up in the office, exhausting yourself. For the long term, it is not worth considering at all: there is no year-end bonus, no promotion system, and it is purely physical labor. You use your evenings and holidays to work overtime and generate sales, but still receive no overtime pay. Each month, high-performing employees may get to go out for a meal, but based on what they share, it sounds like a direct-selling convention. The boss paints grand pictures for you; I heard that one of the meals was at Costco, which sounds rather pitiful as well (fortunately, I did not push myself to generate sales at the time). It is clearly an industry with room for development, yet the company has developed it into a complete mess ^_^
