Stores depend on how the person in charge manages them. This concerns a store located somewhere in New Taipei City :)

1. Employee trips are forced to use employees’ own leave. You can’t use personal leave or annual leave, either.

2. There is insufficient staffing, so you often have to look after the store alone. If anything dangerous happens, you can only deal with it yourself—the company will not help you.

3. Performance bonuses are only paid when targets are met. Otherwise, you only receive the basic salary. After deducting labor and health insurance, calculate your own hourly wage and see how much it is—extremely low :) If there are few customers that month, be mentally prepared to receive only the basic salary.

4. Regardless of whether there are national holidays that month, you always get eight days off per month. The company’s New Year holiday closure also uses your own leave.

5. During breaks, and even when customers come in right before closing, you still have to serve them and “do good deeds.” The person in charge will only say that this is a “responsibility-based system,” so overtime cannot be reported. (The overtime allowance listed on the payslip is just for show; after calculating it, it is basically the same as the salary posted on the job bank. In conclusion, there is no overtime pay for working beyond scheduled hours.)

6. Part-time employees receive better treatment than full-time employees. Part-time employees working on red-letter days receive double pay, while full-time employees receive neither this nor compensatory leave.

7. After you resign, the company deducts the cost of the uniform. They even charge employees for a single uniform, which shows how high the turnover at this company is.

8. Regarding how salaries are calculated, the person in charge only says, “I don’t know. Just work; the company won’t shortchange you.” It’s ridiculous.

9. Once, I was sick and unable to go to work. The person in charge directly deducted annual leave without even asking. Only after I followed up did I find out that sick leave could be reported.

10. They are very good at painting an attractive picture, then use so-called “company policies” to evade responsibility when they fail to deliver.

Not every store is like this; it depends on the attitude of the person in charge. To any junior students or colleagues who see this, please ask about everything you care about during the interview. If the supervisor dodges the questions with vague answers, run away immediately. I also feel that the company’s corporate culture does not give a very good impression. Junior students and colleagues, remember this: you are selling your time to a company either way, so you might as well choose the one that pays more.
