Pros

The department heads are fairly easy to get along with, but they’re also about to leave. If I list the other advantages:

1. Occasional birthday meals. The company provides drinks and lunch, but it may not be something you like. Also, lunchtime is basically an opportunity for people to flatter the bosses.

2. The year-end bonus is at least one month’s salary. However, now that the eldest and second-in-command have taken over the company, given how stingy they seem, who knows whether they’ll keep cutting it.

3. There is a spring banquet but no year-end banquet. This year’s meal was at the Palais de Chine Hotel; I heard the eldest boss paid out of pocket to upgrade it, but next year may be different. Also, the raffle prizes at the spring banquet are pitiful.

4. Colleagues across departments generally get along well and are easy to talk to. Other than one department made up entirely of relatives and favorites that is difficult to deal with, the rest are fine.

5. On your birthday, you receive a small coin purse. After completing one year, you also get a free bag—but I’d rather have the money!

Cons

There are too many.....especially after the second-in-command returned!

1. When working overtime, you can only choose compensatory leave; you cannot choose overtime pay.

2. The relatives-and-favorites faction runs things as a one-man show. If you do not go along with the Zheng family’s wishes and insist on doing the right thing, you are likely to be sabotaged and singled out.

3. HR and Administration always have a lot to say about clock-ins and applications for business trips. They even question why the clock-in time (the start-of-work clock-in) and the sign-in time at the business-trip destination (you have to clock in via GPS once you arrive) are different. I mean.....if you’re traveling to another county or city for work, don’t you need commuting time?

4. Overtime on holidays often comes with neither overtime pay nor compensatory leave. They think that having to handle things on a holiday means you lack the ability to finish them during regular hours = =

5. Product quality issues are becoming increasingly serious, but they never investigate the root cause; every time, they just handle it as an isolated case.

6. The relatives and favorites often say they have no special privileges, but they do not have to clock in at work. You frequently hear that they need to leave early to see a doctor or something. The scheduled start time is 8:30, yet they often stroll in after 9:00. Isn’t that a special privilege?

7. Since the second-in-command recently returned, he often makes offensive remarks, habitually swears, and insults people’s parents. This kind of workplace environment.....

8. The general manager’s executive assistant seems to think that all of their perceptions are correct, cannot accept other people’s suggestions or ideas, handles matters in the domineering style of a stereotypical old-school boss, and does not respect employees!

9. The salary adjustment promised in the interview after becoming a regular employee was just empty talk and a false promise. When asked, they said the actual decision would be based on performance and that there would be no raise for now, even though all the performance indicators were good....

10. After a certain person returned, employees began resigning one after another. Instead of reflecting on whether there was a problem with the management style, they simply assume it is everyone else’s problem.
