Pros

Well, at least parking is cheap, and there’s an employee cafeteria (although I think the food is fucking awful), and the company’s facilities and infrastructure are decent. Chairman Chiao is generous with money, so it’s not really completely without merit.

Cons

If you’re applying for a sales position on the Japan Team, don’t waste your time interviewing with the current two J managers. All they want is a disposable pair of chopsticks they can throw away at any time. When it comes to salary in the first round, you can be bold—go ahead and open with 60,000. Even if they don’t initially agree, they’ll get down on their knees and beg you to come work there, because they’re probably desperately short-staffed right now. Without even getting into the managers’ bizarre management style, as far as I know, more than six people in this department have applied for internal transfers or quit altogether in just the past six months. Once you join, there will also be all kinds of bizarre, internally draining policies designed to make you unable to stay, plus the two-faced management style of male J and the neurotic, humiliating hazing from female J (she hides it at first—but really, only at first). Seriously! If it weren’t for the money, I would have quit in the first week! Overall, all they want is a scapegoat, because the pay here is too good and they basically have no long-term plans. So, when it comes to leading the team, all they need is enough time to catch their breath a few more times. As for how long they can keep breathing, or whether the team is healthy—that’s not something they want to care about. As long as they can collect a few more months’ salary, then one more month, then the next month, that’s good enough, because the pay is just too good!

Even if you’re not applying for the Japan sales Team, don’t worry! I know a manager for the Korea line who was hired in and told on his second day that he would be overseeing the Mainland China line. Then, a week later, they told him he’d better oversee the Taiwan line after all. When he finally produced results, he was transferred somewhere else. You ask, what happened to those results?

Sorry, they were directly credited to the next sales rep who took over. w
