At the time, there were gaps in the schedule between shifts.
My supervisor forced me to use annual leave according to the schedule, and refusing was ineffective. The reason was: “We don’t need that many people”—an absurd excuse.
After Taiwan Television was acquired by ETtoday in December 2022, the number of hourly news segments, which had originally been relatively few, gradually increased. The 12:00–13:00 and 18:00–19:00 segments were merged, and editing assistants were also required to learn the work of editorial assistants. By the end of February 2023, the hourly news segments ran from 07:00 to 22:00.
After that, newly hired editing assistants had to learn the work of editorial assistants. It was not until the end of August that editing assistants returned to editing-related duties. In March 2023, one editing assistant was hired and had to learn these additional duties, but left at the end of June.
In April, an editing assistant was hired with responsibilities limited to editing-related work. Not long after joining, however, they were required to learn the work of an editorial assistant. Feeling deceived, they adopted a very casual attitude toward the editorial assistant duties and left at the end of July.
An additional one-and-a-half-month performance evaluation was introduced, which affected year-end bonuses. Decisions were made without considering seniority, causing many people to leave.
Since the number of hourly news segments increased, there has been no break at all between shifts on weekdays.
