The position applied for was a car rental sales representative. The interview was conducted jointly by HR and a supervisor. HR provided a fairly comprehensive explanation of the company, its systems, salary, and benefits, and was very polite and respectful toward the interviewee.
I only found out after asking questions:
1. A car rental sales representative is required to make at least 100 cold calls a day (the contact list must be compiled during off-hours).
2. Although the company is a car rental company, a department of approximately 5–8 people is provided with only one car for sales staff to use when looking for customers. The car must be reserved in turns. The supervisor also asked how I would look for customers when no company car was available. If the answer was to ride a scooter to find customers, the supervisor seemed dissatisfied, saying something like, “Riding a scooter isn’t very time-efficient.” It felt as though they preferred to recruit sales staff who own a car (the job bank posting only noted that a driver’s license was required and did not state that applicants with their own car would be preferred). Personally, I think it is bad enough that a car rental company does not have enough company cars for sales staff to use when looking for customers; on top of that, it seemed somewhat discriminatory toward interviewees who do not own a car. It left a really bad impression.
