You can learn many skills unrelated to your major. Often, employees are encouraged to find answers on their own, thereby improving themselves.
Most employees are friendly and approachable, and students generally do not have to deal with the traditional master-apprentice issues.
There is a severe shortage of manpower, yet there are also many students. Students often quit halfway through their training, and although they always say they will hire someone to fill the position, students simply cannot take responsibility for much. Usually, one student can at most count as half a worker.
There is no clear job assignment in the company. You have to do whatever you are told. The boss and the boss’s wife take your cooperation for granted.
Some employees and supervisors in certain departments are very emotional and have extremely poor attitudes. After only a few words, they start raising their voices, as if you owed them a great deal. They say that when new employees arrive, they will give them several opportunities and teach them, but in reality, their attitude becomes poor the very next time.
Purchasing-related tasks are also pushed onto others. The direct supervisor will say, “Why don’t you help them ask about it and take care of it?” I already have too much of my own work to finish, yet I still have to cross departments to do other people’s jobs. She might as well go home. It is very frustrating. When she encounters something new and cannot understand it after reading it once, she does not think about it at all and shows no intention of learning. One purchasing employee has been doing the job longer and uses that seniority to act arrogantly. Everyone else can understand the codes except you.
The tools used by the on-site assembly workers are also inadequate. The tools are not updated, the ventilation is not very good, and the equipment is not upgraded either. The protective devices on the overhead cranes are also not very complete. Unstable ladders are not replaced. Climbing up and down during on-site assembly is very dangerous.
The company has very few policies or systems. The boss and the boss’s wife have the final say. Even when they say something and agree to it, it usually may not actually happen. Reneging is unavoidable.
The salary structure is unusual, and wages are sometimes not paid on time. They say payday is the 10th, but sometimes payment is delayed until around the 15th. Small amounts may be withheld here and deductions made there. Even when the mistake is caused by internal staff handling something improperly, the employees have to bear the consequences themselves. The boss and the boss’s wife have very volatile moods, and some supervisors are the same way, causing many employees to be afraid to ask questions even when they encounter problems.
