The Zhuangzi says: “When an informant communicates inwardly, yet remains outside the mind’s knowing, even ghosts and spirits have not come to dwell there—how much less human beings?” This power of supernatural abilities arises from meditative concentration. The immortals of the Lesser Vehicle attain only the five supernatural powers: the power of miraculous transformation, the divine-eye power, the divine-ear power, the power of knowing others’ minds, and the power of knowing past lives. The immortals of the Great Vehicle, in addition to these five powers, also attain the power of exhausting the outflows, making six powers in all. The main reasons are: supernatural abilities are not the ultimate path to liberation; supernatural abilities cannot overcome karma; supernatural abilities are inferior to morality; and supernatural abilities do not compare with emptiness.

Therefore, because of the Perfection of Wisdom, the mind is without obstruction. Because there is no obstruction, there is no fear; one is far removed from inverted delusions and dreams and ultimately attains nirvana. All Buddhas of the three times, because of the Perfection of Wisdom, attain unsurpassed, complete, and perfect enlightenment. It is true and not false. Therefore the mantra of the Perfection of Wisdom is spoken as follows: Gate gate pāragate pārasaṃgate bodhi svāhā.
