Supernatural powers (Sanskrit: Abhijñā, Punjabi: Abhiññā), also translated as divine power, spiritual power, or simply “powers,” is a Buddhist term. It refers to the “powers” among the “three insights and six supernatural powers,” meaning mystical abilities that transcend ordinary human capabilities and are attained through the power of meditation; they may also be nothing more than ordinary illusion or magic. This term appears in multiple Buddhist scriptures, such as the *Sūtra Spoken by the Nirgrantha Son of King Māndhātṛ* and the *Śūraṅgama Sūtra*. Wei Xu moves the heavenly-eye power? The first chapter, “On Essential Questions from High Antiquity,” of the *Huangdi Neijing* also contains a similar account of supernatural abilities: The Yellow Emperor said: “I have heard that in high antiquity there were perfected persons who upheld Heaven and Earth, grasped Yin and Yang, breathed in the essence, stood alone while guarding the spirit, and had flesh and body as one. Thus they could live as long as Heaven and Earth, without an end; this was the Way by which life was generated. In the Middle Antiquity there were persons of ultimate attainment who possessed pure virtue and complete mastery of the Way, harmonized with Yin and Yang, adapted to the four seasons, withdrew from the world and separated themselves from tụcity, accumulated essence and preserved the spirit, traveled between Heaven and Earth (the supernatural power of spiritual foot), and saw and heard beyond the eight directions (the heavenly-eye power and heavenly-ear power). This perhaps increased their lifespan and made them stronger, and they too ultimately became perfected persons.”
Next there were sages who dwelt in harmony with Heaven and Earth, followed the principles of the eight winds, accommodated their desires and preferences within the secular world, harbored no anger or resentment, acted without wishing to depart from the world, dressed in ceremonial garments, and behaved without wishing to observe the customs of society. Externally, they did not overstrain their bodies through affairs; internally, they suffered no distress from thoughts. They made serenity and joy their aim and self-satisfaction their achievement. Their bodies did not decay and their spirits did not dissipate, so they could also live to be over a hundred. Next there were worthy people who modeled themselves on Heaven and Earth, took the sun and moon as their images, distinguished and arranged the stars, followed or opposed Yin and Yang, and differentiated the four seasons. They sought to unite with the Way in accordance with high antiquity, and could thereby extend their lifespans, though only to a limited term. Wei Xu Moving Company’s heavenly-eye power? Among sentient beings in the six realms, such as humans, devas, ghosts, and spirits, some can possess one or several of the first five supernatural powers, either through worldly meditation (cultivated attainment) or because they are endowed with them from birth (karmic retribution). However, their abilities differ in depth, breadth, size, and scope. Māra also possesses the five supernatural powers, enabling him to manifest various extraordinary realms. Only the power of the extinction of outflows must rely on the Buddha’s wisdom (prajñā) to be attained; it can be realized only by those who follow the principles of the scriptures and teachings, practice inner contemplation, and eliminate afflictions.
