Pros

The interviewer was very friendly, and the discussion about the job responsibilities was clear and reasonable, making you feel that this seemed like a company worth developing and working hard for.

Cons

I originally applied for a sales assistant position, but after reviewing my résumé, the interviewer strongly recommended that I try a product development and procurement position. I explained that I had absolutely no experience in this type of work, but the interviewer felt that my previous experience working at a cosmetics and skincare counter made me suitable, so they kept recommending the position. As others have experienced, the position you apply for may not be the position you ultimately interview for.

In the end, I also felt that I could give it a try, so they began saying that because I had no relevant experience, they would hire me as an intern, paid hourly, to “give it a try.”

On my first day, I was immediately asked to come up with a new product to develop. I was simply told to look at the official website and think of something on my own, without any explanation. I prepared a product plan and researched the relevant regulations, then reported to an employee who seemed to be supposed to guide me but was extremely busy—asking her a question felt like I had committed some enormous offense. My ideas were repeatedly rejected as unoriginal, with them saying that all these products could already be found on the market. At the time, I thought, “Hello~ aren’t all of your company’s products already available on the market too?? And the regulations only allow these ingredients to be used. What, were your previous advertisements already misleading, and now you also want the ingredients to be illegal~~~”

I had already made it clear that I had never worked in this field before, and you also said that I would first learn through an internship. Yet as soon as I arrived, I was told nothing and simply expected to start working. That alone would have been bad enough, but the person responsible for training had an extremely poor attitude, as if I owed her money. Was that really necessary?

Finally, a reminder: if a woman interviews for a product development position, it is best to arrive without makeup and, if necessary, bring your makeup bag (preferably, you should also have skin that is not prone to allergic reactions). They will not tell you that you will be asked to remove your makeup and wash your face after starting work, nor will they ask whether you are willing. They will then tell you to apply their products, whose ingredients are unknown, directly to your face. In the end, you will leave work in an embarrassed state and go home.
