Pros

The interviewer/manager will give you a beautiful blueprint to strive toward together with them.

When a customer complaint case has issues and requires supplementary documents, the company absorbs the cost itself.

If a customer goes bankrupt or becomes unreachable, the company absorbs the amount of that case.

Cons

The graphic design department is a department that is not respected by the company. For all junior designers considering applying to this company: stop right there.

Yes, you read that correctly! Not “think twice”—stop right there.

During my employment, the manager allowed the department to be bullied, increased the workload without mentioning it before the interview, and treated us unequally. In addition, to protect themselves, the department manager would push employees forward to take the blame, and slander employees’ character and spread rumors with other managers.

On top of that, when the department met its performance targets, you received no performance bonus. You read that correctly! You received nothing! The bonuses issued by the company went into the manager’s pocket. The key point is that this manager did not—and could not—do anything. They only make empty promises and write you bouncing checks. The only “bonus” was the manager giving you a NT$500 red envelope and saying, “Here, this is a bonus I’m paying out of my own pocket,” then taking you out for one meal. That was it. If you proposed a salary adjustment, the manager and the company would allocate rent, utilities, and miscellaneous expenses to you and the department, saying that because performance targets had not been met and of the rent and utilities, they could not give you a raise. Then, after telling you all this, the company would post a job opening claiming it was going to add staff to the department, but they would never actually interview anyone, and you would continue working yourself to the bone. During the interview, they only told you that you would need to design and draw. Later, the designer was expected to take responsibility for performance targets and sales; eventually, you had to ship, pack, and carry goods. Your workload increased explosively, while your salary still did not increase.^^

If you asked another department for help, the manager of that department would come to your manager and say that their department could not provide assistance. That in itself would be fine—we employees can all understand the hard work of each department, and it is understandable if other departments cannot provide support. The problem is that your manager would give you the cold shoulder and completely ignore you, telling you to handle it yourselves and not disturb other departments.^^ Then the customers you had worked hard to maintain would be left unattended or refused because your manager had neglected to handle them, or because there was supposedly no manpower. Your manager might even tell you, “If you really can’t take it, then don’t take it—it’s fine. The senior manager has the final say!” But what happens next? When the workload became too much and a customer’s case was declined, the customer would call the boss to complain about why the case was not accepted. As soon as the manager heard this, they would make a complete 365-degree turn, go with the prevailing wind, say that the case should be accepted, and make you apologize. Do you think this is a department you can stay in?

The key point is that when the manager sees conflicts among department employees, they will not mediate. They will even share this with other colleagues, saying that this is how the department will improve. Ha. What kind of newfangled thinking is that? Also, managers from other departments at the company will negotiate cases with regional customers, then dump everything on the graphic design department after the discussion. The manager of the department that negotiated the case then gets additional KPI credit for successfully negotiating it, while the design colleagues in the graphic design department still receive no bonus or KPI credit. They continue working themselves to the bone, and you still have to keep doing the work because no one will help you.

Then, at 6:30, you will be forced to clock out. There is no overtime pay. If a case is extremely urgent, your own sense of responsibility will quietly sprout again, and you will stay behind to continue working—but you still will not receive overtime pay.

So, friends who are thinking of joining or interviewing at this company, please really stop right there. You would be better off working at a 7-Eleven counter than going to this company and being treated this way.
