Cons

When I arrived for the interview, I first filled out the basic information and waited for about 25 minutes. Then an older manager, approximately 50–60 years old and with prominent protruding teeth, came in.

He looked over some basic information >

Then he asked questions such as what I could do (I had previously worked in IT-related and administrative roles).

I did not major in the relevant field at university (though I had studied it at vocational high school), and he repeatedly brought this up, saying things like I only knew the basics. He showed absolutely no respect for other people's abilities.

The main issue was my expected salary. I wrote the same salary as in my previous job. He said that the work there was different from what I had done before and involved more in-depth responsibilities: “To be honest, someone who doesn’t know anything can’t ask for such a high salary.”

I asked, “Could you tell me about the company benefits so I can adjust my salary expectations?” He said there were benefits for the three major holidays, as well as company-provided lunch and dinner.

I then asked about the year-end bonus. He said it depended on the company’s operations. I asked whether there was a basic bonus of one month’s salary or something similar.

He replied, “Young people nowadays write down salaries like this without improving their abilities. We need to teach you everything from the beginning, so you need to have a learning mindset. We also have people in our company whose salary was adjusted to over 40K. The salary you wrote is too high at 37K; we can only offer you 33K–34K. If you add the meal allowance, it’s about the same anyway.”

I said, “But the salary and benefits offered by companies elsewhere are very good.” (I could earn 45K at a foreign company elsewhere.)

(This part took approximately 15 minutes.)

The interviewer then thought it over and asked someone from the IT department to come talk with me about job-related questions. This lasted about 15 minutes.

I should mention that the IT interviewer was very polite. Even when I lacked a particular skill, they did not criticize me and simply asked questions such as whether I understood that area or had handled it before. After that, the interview ended.

Afterward, the older manager came back in and said, “Mr. X, if there is any further progress, we will contact you.”

(He did not even briefly see me out; instead, he went off to talk to someone else.)

Interview questions

Q: Can you accept being on call 24 hours a day?

A: I would still prefer to work normal hours.

Q: Have you done anything to improve your abilities?

A: No, not particularly.

Interview conclusion

I encountered an interviewer who did not respect interviewees. The kind of people a company has reflects what kind of company it is.
