Practicing the ability to filter companies yourself.
I interviewed for a software engineer position. During the manager interview, they asked about my past experience but not my technical experience. However, they really fixated on details in my report, asking about the purpose of my personal projects (and repeatedly probing if I didn’t give a convincing answer) and the percentage of growth that my projects contributed to my previous company. If they’re hiring an engineer, shouldn’t they be asking about problem-solving or coding experience?
The HR representative here called to invite me to an interview and painted a very attractive picture of the company’s future vision (a pie in the sky). But when I confirmed it with the manager during the interview, the manager said there was no such vision. When asked whether HR had said those things, HR then claimed not to know what had been discussed during the phone interview.
Oh, and by the way, the dress code is a full suit and tie. That hasn’t changed.
