No particular impression.
Before the interview, I was required to fill out a personal information form. It included a section for family members. I filled it out truthfully, only to realize afterward that it was not required. I thought it would be strange to cross it out, so I left it as is.
During the interview, the department manager actually asked me, “There are only three people in your family—is it because you’re a single-parent family, or because someone has passed away?” My mind went blank at the time, so I answered truthfully. The manager then added, “I didn’t mean anything by it—please don’t misunderstand.”
The more I thought about it afterward, the angrier I became. It made me feel extremely uncomfortable. What exactly did this question have to do with the job I was interviewing for? I blamed myself for not reading the form carefully before filling it out, and I also blamed myself for not declining to answer such a rude question when asked.
I only hope that anyone planning to interview there will be cautious and consider carefully what to fill out.
