Supervisors and HR appear very kind on the surface, but they are extremely self-serving. When they like you, you can climb quickly; when they dislike you, they resort to all kinds of petty tactics: assigning you terrible roles, telling you that the good positions have already been closed, or claiming they cannot find anything, that there is nothing available, leaving you stuck with the worst work or sidelined.
Because we are handling other people's outsourced projects, the client is treated like royalty, and whatever they say is law. When there is a dispute, they immediately find someone to blame, and you never know who will be thrown under the bus next.
Engineers are always the first targets for blame, and the client will absolutely tear you apart. Being criticized by the client is not even the worst part; the worst part is that your own project manager will not stand up for you either. They normally pretend to have a great relationship with everyone, but the moment something goes wrong, they are the first to push someone forward to take the fall.
The moment I hear that people are fighting to get in for an interview, I genuinely feel happy for you—encouraging everyone to come and fill these terrible positions.
