After submitting my résumé, the initial interview invitation was very strange. They asked me to call with a time that was convenient for me, only to then say that the manager wasn’t available at that time. I then went to the interview according to the manager’s schedule, but was interviewed only by HR. (At the time, I wasn’t in Taipei, and I still had to travel back and forth according to the time they specified.)

During the process, HR kept pressing me with intrusive personal questions and repeatedly demanded to know my previous salary. (They kept guessing amounts and asking whether it was this or that, pressuring me to say it and insisting on narrowing it down until they guessed it 🤬.) They were extremely rude. When they asked about my expected salary, I stated the lowest amount in the range listed for the position, yet they acted as if they had no intention of offering that salary. The whole process was extremely uncomfortable! Then they said they would get the manager to interview me. I waited for a long time—at least 10 minutes, possibly nearly 20 (I couldn’t conveniently check the time)—but they came back and told me the manager was busy, and that the manager would review my written materials before deciding whether to notify me about a second interview! (I was completely speechless. You were the one doing all the talking.)

It wasn’t until I got home that I thought to look online for information about interviews at this company, and I found a whole bunch of negative reviews! Since then, I’ve made sure to check online reviews before submitting a résumé or attending an interview, so I can decide whether it’s worth it and avoid wasting time and energy. Preparing for an interview also takes effort, you know! Stop messing job seekers around. Everyone’s time is valuable—it’s not only your company’s and managers’ time that matters, okay? Truly an infuriating, terrible company!
