Pros

Every day is fulfilling.

Cons

Each task is explained for only about 5–10 minutes.

You are given a very simple SOP left by the previous employee and told to figure it out yourself. You are expected to understand the report contents on your own. Can you really complete the report without any problems or errors?

<Reasonable, because the supervisor thinks it is very simple and not difficult. When you first encounter it, organizing the reports and independently understanding their contents takes a long time, but you are expected to be self-taught and know how to ask questions.>

You have worked for less than a month—only two weeks—

and you can already train new colleagues?

<Reasonable, because the supervisor who trained you happens to be on leave. The supervisor had no time to teach you, but you have already learned everything and gained experience—in just two weeks.>

So you can get new employees up to speed?

<Reasonable. This will not reduce the time available for your own work,

nor delay your progress on the day’s tasks and force you to work overtime.>

Please turn the work content you have only just learned into a visual SOP document?

<Reasonable, because the supervisor has no time to teach and is too busy and impatient to do so. Therefore, do not think you can simply ask the supervisor questions—especially about things they consider simple. You are expected to have a mind that never forgets anything after seeing it once, as if you had already worked here for a year.>

Printing and organizing work orders, delivering work orders around the plant, and following up on finished-product progress can take up half a day.

You have time to think about problems you do not understand.

You have time to ask about reports you cannot understand.

You have time to train new colleagues and write SOPs.

On average, you work overtime only three days a week, for 2–3 hours each time.

Everything is reasonable. You are just a new employee, so you are not entitled to overtime pay. This was agreed upon during the interview: you are merely learning the technical skills of the industry. The problem is your own time management—organizing information too slowly and wasting time because you do not know how to train newcomers.
