Cons

My position was brand planning and management

In reality, I was just a social media editor, and I couldn’t even exercise my own creativity

Let’s start with the issue of the company being a “startup”

The disadvantages and crises revolve around those two words: “startup”

From the interview through resignation, you won’t meet the actual boss

The boss is a young heir to a wealthy family

He founded an e-commerce company and self-operated brands with a group of three or five close friends

They began opening stores in both Taipei and Kaohsiung

You may have wanted to join because you had heard of the following brands

(I did too, but after joining the company, I was badly misled)

The perfume Sh□re.co, endorsed by rapper Shóuzi

The cosmetics and skincare brand J.K□O, created by Kao Yu-chen

There are also the heavily advertised □&J, K□ fragrances, and Old Peng □

They are all small brands under this company

The company focuses on online advertising and Facebook and Instagram ads to achieve monthly sales targets

The strange thing is that, because the company has its own “one-page store” websites,

these divert sales away from the official websites

So after you write a large number of posts and column articles,

there may not be much effect (for it to count as an effective result and sales, consumers have to enter the one-page store through your link and complete an order)

In plain language, many consumers have the impression that one-page stores are scams

so they will still Google the official website, compare multiple sources, and then place an order

(For example, you see a headline such as “ZARA anniversary sale—up to 60% off! Click in to shop now, for two days only,” enter the webpage, and see all kinds of images and exaggerated text. Although you may be tempted, you might still verify it before buying, right? And would you specifically go back to buy from the one-page store? Assuming the price is the same~)

This is the first difficulty

Next is the company’s management problem

I had one male and one female direct supervisor, both very young (under 30)

They were both the boss’s friends or classmates

Before becoming supervisors, they really did not have much work experience

So having people with little real-world experience serve as supervisors

made it genuinely difficult to work with them

1. They didn’t understand many technical terms used in the advertising industry, so your proposals would be rejected outright

2. Social media editors naturally have their own “personalities”: Editor A has Editor A’s writing style, and Editor B has Editor B’s wording habits. But they took a traditional approach. Verbally, they said they could accept posts and headlines in all kinds of styles, but privately, the two of them criticized them relentlessly behind the scenes

3. Because they had never managed anyone, if you finished your work quickly and had nothing to do, even proactively asking them did not help them figure out how to assign more work. Later, they would actually turn around and blame you for writing articles so quickly, asking whether you were slacking off during work hours and causing the supervisor’s work to remain unfinished (I really don’t understand this)

Also, if you stay past the probationary period, that does not mean you are capable. It only means you fit their preferences. HR said that their thinking was too closed-minded, and since they also wanted to run an e-commerce business, people who joined either had to accept work with no room for growth or simply provide exactly what they wanted every day, without needing too many personal ideas (then what is the point of being a planner?). Data analysis and keyword setup were not your responsibility either, so you would feel like you were wasting your life.....Here is some advice for those who are about to interview or join: this job is very suitable for quietly coasting toward retirement, but it is not suitable for someone with ideas and ability~ Being so capable that you overshadow your supervisor is also considered a crime

Finally, I have to say something about these brands. Whether it is clothing or food, some of their products are usable, but if you are a consumer, I advise you not to buy them (just listen to what a former employee says)

Because the materials are poor and the ingredients are mediocre, yet they use grandiose, exaggerated wording to package and market them,

raising the prices and perceived brand value. By the end, I even felt I could not keep writing

They really are not good to use—how am I supposed to sincerely recommend them????

Although e-commerce does operate on the borderline between genuine marketing and false advertising,

I believe everyone works to earn money so they can buy things they are satisfied with

rather than inferior products or things that can be bought cheaply, right~

Netizens who want to avoid these pitfalls can leave a comment. If fate allows, I’ll reply XD
