Pros

If you want to coast toward retirement, you can slack off with everyone else there; as long as you have thick skin and no expectations for your own work, the job will be very stable.

Collaboration with other departments is generally smooth, and there are still quite a few nice people in other departments.

Cons

The ceiling for performance bonuses is extremely low—roughly enough to let you eat at Xiang Shi Paradise three extra times a month, even though the workload is quite substantial.

The work feels extremely chaotic. Certain managers create all kinds of strange situations, as if they are trying to stop us from conducting business and serving customers.

Certain business managers think they are above everyone else and that the world should revolve around them. They look down on small businesses.

One department has a thriving culture of putting on a show.

Certain managers often deliberately make things difficult for their subordinates, constantly change decisions, and create positions or tasks to suit particular people. The department is full of an atmosphere of currying favor with managers, and cliques are a serious problem.

Certain managers dislike subordinates sending emails to ask questions or communicate. They often deliberately hold onto time-sensitive emails, forcing you to ask them in person, and then later claim they were unaware of the matter.

Whenever there is a problem or a customer complaint, certain managers immediately shift the blame onto front-line staff. If there is credit to be claimed, they take it all for themselves.

In short, although it is not a government agency, one department has about 80% of the bad habits you would expect from one. As a result, people in the business unit often resign; the bad drive out the good, and employees from other departments do not want to be transferred there.

It was only after I later went to another bank that I realized the department's managers were the ones causing the trouble. Their reputation had already become notorious.
