People always say it’s hard to make friends after entering the workforce, but colleagues my age became incredibly close because we disliked the managers and the company policies. It’s been over two years since I left, and we’re still in touch.

So when my former colleagues mentioned that the review I wrote several years ago had disappeared—and that some positive reviews had been added—I thought, “Oh no, how could this be?”

I was a recent graduate at the time, but I worked there for two years. After leaving, I took six months off to recover after seeing a psychiatrist before starting work again. Of course I had to come back and contribute my own experience. This kind of legacy passed down by former employees counts as a benefit too, I suppose.

1. The working hours are long, but the compensation is very ordinary. If your working hours aren’t long enough, you’ll be called in for a meeting.

2. The manager loved emotional blackmail (the manager I had at the time is still employed there), humiliating you while never using profanity.

3. There were no typhoon days off. During the Lunar New Year at the time, I was still replying to clients’ emails, and even taking annual leave on ordinary days was very difficult. They made it seem as if granting you leave were some kind of reward.

4. I heard that newcomers no longer have to perform a dance at the year-end banquet, which is good. However, department managers require employees to spend money on professional hair and makeup and dress very formally; showing more skin would earn praise from the manager.
