Pros

The overall attitude was very friendly. Just answer the questions honestly, and the company will give you the result before the end of the workday.

Cons

During the interview, the boss did not tell me how the salary would be calculated, only saying that they would discuss it with the accountant and let me know later.

Not long after I got home, I indeed received a phone call—but then came the problem.

The accountant said they wanted to see whether I was suitable and satisfied with the job during the probationary period. Since there were only a little over two weeks left in the month, I did not expect to receive much money. I only asked whether it would be calculated hourly and mentioned the then-current statutory hourly wage.

The accountant was stunned for a moment, as if they had not expected me to say that. They then quoted a price of a few thousand dollars and said that this would be the price for the month, paid in cash.

This time I was the one who was stunned, because whether calculated as an hourly wage or a monthly salary, it was far too little! For a moment, I did not realize that this was a daily wage. I merely confirmed again: was the probationary period for this month really only a few thousand dollars?

The accountant said yes, but I still felt that it was extremely strange. Even sweatshops are not this outrageous! I said I needed to think about it and would call the accountant back later. After discussing it with my family, the more we thought about it, the more something seemed wrong. So I reluctantly called back to ask for clarification, and finally, after “pressing” the accountant, got them to say that this was a few thousand dollars per day.

...So why didn’t you say it was a daily wage? Why keep saying that it was only a few thousand dollars for the month? Were you trying to scare me to death!?

In the end, considering the nature of the work and the commute, I still agreed to try working there during the probationary period.
