When you first join, your supervisor is amiable

They call you aside from time to time to ask how you’re doing and what you’ve learned

Then they teach you some lengthy internal company procedures

But in fact, they have already been asking people behind your back to comment on you—to an absurd extent

Cliques and small groups are a serious problem

After you’ve been there for a while, you can tell who has a bad relationship with whom

Which subordinates the supervisor favors and which ones they dislike

And they really love calling people in for meetings, leaving you terrified

Because most of the company’s internal systems are highly manual,

you periodically have to compete with others to open files

When you’re assigned a task,

you also have to see whether a senior colleague is willing to teach you properly

or even knows how to teach you

because they may not understand it clearly themselves

But in any case, if the work isn’t done well, the supervisor will still blame you

During the short few months I was there,

there were all kinds of frustrations among those who joined at the same time

The final breaking point was when the supervisor called me in, criticized me for lacking enthusiasm, and gave me an attitude

You never know how much influence the people secretly reporting on you,
