Pros

The interview was very efficient and I didn't need to fill out an additional application form. It was over in about 15 minutes.

Cons

This company proactively contacted me for an interview, and I told them that I was still employed and currently working at Store B in Department Store A. Brand ADP, which sells their perfume, has a location in Store C of Department Store A, and I had also worked at Store C, so I had a general understanding of the brand's situation. They said that if I was hired, they would call me three days later, and that I would not receive a call if I was not selected.

I did not receive a call from ADP that day. Instead, I received a call from a colleague at Store C, who asked whether I would like to work at their store if I was planning to resign. I was very surprised because I had not told anyone at Department Store A that I had gone to an interview. Only later did my colleague at Store C tell me that ADP had called their colleague—the staff member responsible for fragrances—to ask about me, which was how they found out that I had interviewed. ADP said that because they still wanted to hire someone with fragrance sales experience, they did not plan to hire me.

I was absolutely furious when I heard the whole story. If I had already resigned, I would have had no objection to their calling my former employer to ask about me. But the point is that I was still employed. Calling my current company to ask about me was essentially announcing to everyone that I was looking for another job. Moreover, their reason for not hiring me was that I did not have fragrance sales experience. Wasn't that something they already knew during the interview? Why did they need to call my former colleague again to ask about me? The interview was arranged by their company, and I had made my fragrance sales experience—or lack thereof—perfectly clear in both my résumé and the interview. I truly feel that not hiring me would have been fine, but why did they have to call my company to ask around? What kind of gossip-driven mindset is that, especially when I was still employed? I am still working at Store B. Wouldn't it be extremely awkward if other colleagues asked me about it?

I sincerely believe that not hiring me is perfectly fine, but there was no need to pry into my affairs and cause difficulties for a job seeker. This was truly the worst interview experience I have ever had.
