Background: This is a department that is not part of the head office; someone previously wrote about the continuing education website. Perhaps not every department is like this, but if you are considering joining this department, please think twice.

Blurring the line between public and private matters: In addition to delegating all work-related tasks, the department's senior manager also asks employees to handle personal errands. After joining, I was asked to help with online shopping, buying medicine, paying bills, and more. One colleague even helped verify the manager's personal invoices.

Distracted during meetings: During one meeting, I happened to notice the department's senior manager playing on his phone—not handling messages, but playing a once hugely popular match-three game. He was inattentive and distracted during the meeting, then needed help recalling the meeting's content afterward. Sometimes he would even question whether certain matters had been discussed during the meeting.

Disrespectful of professional expertise: To reduce costs, the website was left without an upgrade for a long time. Even after subordinates provided evidence of the benefits of upgrading, the department's senior manager still questioned the sources of the supporting materials and the reasons for the improvement in the data. Similar incidents happened repeatedly.

Unwilling to take responsibility: A famous saying of the department's senior manager is that he only looks at results, not the process. Decisions during the process were always left for subordinates to make after their own assessment; he would not offer his opinion, since the department's senior manager believed he did not need to know everything. But when the results did not meet expectations, the department's senior manager would ask why they had made that decision without consulting him first. In fact, subordinates had always sought his approval before carrying things out.
