After submitting a résumé, I received a notification asking me to fill out an application information form, an interview information form, and a Google Form.
After I sent them back, this company emailed me requesting that I also fill in my family situation on the application information form. Since I felt that my family situation was unrelated to the position I was applying for, I cited the Enforcement Rules of the Employment Service Act to inform them that family situation is personal privacy information and that job seekers may choose not to provide it. If your company wishes to collect this type of information, it must explain the legitimate relevance between collecting this background information and the position applied for, as well as the legal authorization. As a result, this company sent me the following: “After evaluation by the supervisor, our company does not have a suitable position for my background…” and so on.
Throughout this back-and-forth, besides feeling that this company must be very short-staffed, I also felt that if I did not follow the company’s procedures, I would be rejected. I was also quite relieved that they did not later notify me of an interview; otherwise, I don’t know how much more time I would have had to spend.
