Pros

Thinking about it, I suppose the beautiful mountains and waters are about the only thing that can comfort a wounded soul.

Cons

1. Workplace bullying:

This company is run by so-called “big shots.” Those long-time employees have the boss’s complete trust, and they lord it over everyone every day. Workplace bullying is part of daily life. In this supposedly “blessed place,” there is a senior manager who greets you and your ancestors for eight generations with profanity three times a day, as well as several senior managers who are very good at using company resources to gain numerous benefits and also like to get handsy. So, if you have a strong heart—or strong enough slave-like endurance—you might consider applying.

2. Cash-flow problems:

This company proudly calls itself a “five-star” luxury hotel and even claims to be a chain, but in reality it took over a hotel that had been poorly managed by someone else and merely changed its name. During the interview and follow-up, the company constantly painted rosy pictures, but the promised salary simply did not exist after joining. As HR reportedly said: “We forgot to enter it into the system, so we can’t pay you this month yet. You can eat instant noodles for now.” The tourism industry was indeed struggling during the pandemic, and there were no year-end bonuses for two consecutive years. No one explained how the salary and year-end bonus formulas were calculated; HR only brushed off the people below them and casually glossed over everything. Meanwhile, the people at the top continued to receive their salaries and bonuses as usual, while entry-level employees got nothing. The accounting staff also regularly made mistakes with cash flows and vouchers and had emotional issues. Basically, the frontline employees did all the work, and then were told that salary payments would be delayed again.

Most importantly, overtime pay was directly altered by HR. Everyone was required to clock in and out, but HR and accounting also said they would modify the recorded working hours. To evade the Labor Standards Act, they told employees in supervisory positions that they could not receive overtime pay. However, special assistants and secretaries with connections did not necessarily work every day and still received overtime pay. The double standard was enormous.

3. Completely clueless

Although it calls itself five-star, the inside is completely old-fashioned and unsophisticated—about as traditional-industry as it gets. On top of that, they have no understanding of how high-end brands are run or what budgets are needed. They only demand good quality without providing a budget, and pressure employees to work for free on tasks outside their professional expertise. With orders constantly changing from one day to the next, frontline employees are left completely at a loss every day.

Conclusion: If you just want to muddle through and be a salary thief, you can come here and learn from these big shots—but you’d better have good connections. If you aren’t good at flattering people, you may also get an earful of profanity every day! As for wanting to learn anything about five-star hotels, I suggest not coming here for now, haha.
