The discussions went very smoothly at first, but toward the end I was absolutely furious and thought the whole thing was ridiculous and a complete waste of time. HR made a verbal offer to me but didn’t give me a figure, and only told me two days later. I said I wanted two days to think it over before getting back to them, but that same afternoon I called HR back to say I was willing to join. Then I discovered that they had also made a verbal offer to someone else, and since the other candidate responded before I did, my offer was gone just like that. HR’s attitude was extremely dismissive, and they even thought what they had done was right. Their words were condescending and showed that they thought highly of themselves. They even turned around and said that I didn’t take the offer seriously, which was why they asked someone else. But shouldn’t they have waited for my response before moving on to the next candidate? Besides, I’m currently employed—is asking for two days to think it over really excessive? When HR first made the verbal offer, they didn’t even tell me the amount, yet kept asking me for an answer. How was I supposed to know how much they were going to offer? An extremely unprofessional and incompetent HR person who can still become a manager. There’s a reason the online reviews are so bad. Fortunately, I didn’t end up joining.
