1. Nice interviewer

2. Video interview

Cons

1.

After the interview, you have to proactively follow up. For anything at all, you have to ask—and then keep chasing, chasing, and chasing.

2.

After they sent the offer email, even replying to accept the offer involved pressure about the start date.

The company also played dead and wouldn’t tell you when you could actually start. Then the entire position disappeared; presumably because I emailed to ask about the progress.

This alone is enough reason to skip this company entirely. They sent an offer but couldn’t even provide a start date?

I also confirmed that there was an opening and a project. In the end, when they no longer wanted me to start, they simply said the project had been delayed, so the position was gone.

Do they think everyone has unlimited time?

3.

The salary in Taipei is listed as $35,000 for an engineer position. It is not an on-site assignment. The criteria for salary adjustments and performance reviews are unclear, and I didn’t ask about the annual salary.

4.

You have to provide your own laptop, with a monthly subsidy of 1,000.

As if paying peanuts to hire monkeys weren’t enough, they also want the monkeys to pick their own bananas.

An IT company that can’t even provide equipment for an internal position, and instead requires employees to bring their own, is plainly just looking for disposable labor. The turnover rate is probably sky-high.

Summary:

You can tell from these procedures alone that the entire company is extremely disorganized—apparently to the point that someone has enough power to cover everything up.

They can decide to hire you whenever they feel like it, and then later just tell you the project was delayed and pretend there was never a position.

A relatively small company that opens a bunch of positions at once—after interviewing with a few companies, you’ll recognize that this kind is one of those remarkable Pokémon companies that dispatches workers everywhere to clean up their messes.

Oh, but unless you’re really desperate for a job, there’s no need to waste your time.

Because even if you fight tooth and nail to get an offer, you might still not be allowed to start. ^_^
