永泰國際飯店股份有限公司-村却國際溫泉酒店
Pros

1. The hotel lobby is quite spacious and impressive, and the surroundings and floors are very clean.

2. The employee who showed me to my seat was quite polite and courteous.

Cons

I applied for the position of General Procurement Specialist. The owner (chairman) personally conducted the interview. In front of the owner, I briefly introduced myself: I graduated from a business program in Australia and had previously worked at hotels in Taiwan and Australia, rotating through different departments, such as Marketing & Sales, Front Desk (including Reservations), Food & Beverage (F&B), and Housekeeping. I clearly stated on my résumé that I had no procurement-related experience, but I did have hotel experience.

Before I had finished speaking, the owner and HR said, “Procurement is difficult; there’s no way we can hire someone without experience.” The owner then turned to me and said that since I had no experience, I would have to start from the basics by working part-time in the Housekeeping Department at an hourly wage of 160. They would evaluate my performance, and after two or three months, there might be an opportunity to become a full-time employee, with a salary of NT$30,000.

I looked at HR but did not respond. The owner then said, “After you work here, maybe we’ll really like you, or maybe you’ll really like this place.” I replied, “Thank you,” and turned around and left.

1. If this company expects candidates for the General Procurement Specialist position to have procurement-related experience, it should clearly state this. Instead, it only says, “Engineering procurement experience preferred.” “Preferred” means that having such experience would be good, but it is not a necessary condition. If related experience is required, the company should clearly specify this, including how many years of experience are needed to meet its requirements.

2. I clearly stated on my résumé that I did not have procurement-related experience. If I did not meet the company’s requirements, it did not need to invite me to an in-person interview.

3. Procurement and housekeeping are two different things. I do not believe that working part-time in housekeeping can help me accumulate procurement experience.

4. If the company was short of housekeeping employees or part-time workers, it should have posted a separate job opening specifically for housekeeping. Instead, it placed someone who wanted to work in procurement in the Housekeeping Department to clean rooms.

5. HR said on the phone that it would be an individual interview, but at the venue, it took place in a restaurant, where a group of people sat at different tables and conducted separate interviews. There was no air conditioning, no fan, and no water. During the interview, you could hear the owner talking with candidates at the other tables.

6. The owner judges people by their appearance.

7. Based on the conversation, I personally felt that this was probably the owner’s first time managing a hotel and that they likely control every aspect of the operation. As for whether that is good or bad, I do not know because I have not worked here. However, based on this interview experience, I personally felt that my time was wasted.

If you are a recent graduate and want to gain interview experience, you could give it a try.

However, I suggest trying other job opportunities as well; you may be able to find a better job.
