Pros

The boss’s management motto: Outstanding employees don’t need to be managed; employees who need to be managed aren’t good employees. Therefore, the self-management approach here naturally weeds out people who bluff their way in without the ability to back it up and who make big claims. The company’s project self-management and self-directed learning test employees’ sense of responsibility and self-management ability. Those whose professional skills are insufficient are naturally eliminated quickly, let alone those who lack the ability to manage projects independently. For projects, the boss only gives us the deadline, and we can raise issues at any time. Therefore, each of us takes responsibility for delivering our assignments on time, which is also why people learn and grow quickly at Lantian. The most distinctive feature is being able to start and finish work on time, from 09:00 to 18:00. Leave is provided on the same basis as for government agencies (excellent). As long as we do not compromise our own project quality or deadlines—and unless we occasionally encounter a particularly tight deadline—we very rarely work past six. By the way, there is another advantage: when something unexpected comes up at home and we need to take leave (provided it is not frequent), the boss does not deduct any salary. It is a very humane workplace environment.

Cons

1. Customer deadlines come first. If self-management is not done well, the pressure is extremely high. But every company has drawbacks; if I really had to name one, I think the benefits could be even better ^^.

2. The self-management approach is very distinctive: quality and deadlines are in your own hands. Once a project is assigned to you, it quickly becomes clear whether you have what it takes, so unsuitable people are often eliminated easily and quickly. However, those who remain are all excellent.

3. There is no particularly strict management system. This company truly requires people with strong self-management and professional skills to adapt; otherwise, they can easily be eliminated.
