Pros

1. Most employees are in their 20s to 30s, so there is generally less of an age gap.

2. Eight or nine out of ten colleagues are both capable and kind. Basically, as long as you do not make overly serious mistakes, everyone is happy to help. If you are willing to learn, you can learn a lot from your colleagues.

3. Free coffee every day and occasional company gatherings (the regular ones are the spring banquet, Thanksgiving, and the year-end banquet). There is an annual subsidy of NT$30,000 for overseas employee trips. Overtime follows the Labor Standards Act, and business-trip expenses can be reimbursed. The benefits provided are not lacking, and employee benefits are fairly good.

4. If you are on the client side and see this company win a project bid, you will be very happy because they are genuinely easy to push around and can be asked to handle all kinds of tasks, big or small.

5. The company’s business is growing steadily, so there is no need to worry about running out of projects.

Cons

1. The company’s biggest problem is that the managers are essentially pulling in different directions, each acting independently. There is no leader capable of truly keeping all the managers in line, so a great deal of time and energy is spent on internal friction when getting things done.

2. Some managers lack professionalism. The incompetence of senior management wears out the front-line staff; simple matters are made complicated, and much of the time is spent on superficial work, resulting in inefficiency. In particular, the beauty or ugliness of something is highly subjective, yet far too much time is often spent on this.

3. The company only wants to please the client, often allowing the client to squeeze out at least several hundred thousand additional dollars’ worth of work. As a result, even after everything originally planned has long been completed, employees still have to do a large amount of extra work.

4. Salary growth is limited. Although there is a fixed year-end bonus and occasional profit sharing, overall annual compensation may be about the same as that of a civil service exam passer, while the workload may be several times greater.

5. How often you are assigned standby duty depends on the client. Sometimes they ask you to be on duty even when there is hardly any bad weather. If you are unlucky and happen to be rushing to finish a report, you may end up on duty so often that you feel like dying.

In summary, if you want to enjoy the experience of learning from and sharpening your skills with your peers, I would quite recommend coming here, especially for programming-related work. The prerequisite, however, is that you must be able to put up with unreasonable client demands and the various decisions made by certain managers that consume your time and energy.
